Description

Our own ‘home from home’ holiday apartment in one of the best leafy areas of south central Dublin 4, a short trip on the bus to the centre or 30 minutes walk through Georgian streets to the Stephen’s Green/museums/Trinity College area. This Ballsbridge/Donnybrook ‘embassy’ area is a very safe area for walking at night.

Although the apartment itself has good sized rooms and massive windows, it has just one bedroom and I keep it for a maximum of 2 people. I travel from England between each let so the minimum booking period is one week (although of course you can stay for less).

A car is not an essential as there is such good public transport nearby but if you have a car, I provide a free parking permit in the apartment complex. The wifi is 250MB unlimited.

People choose my Dublinletfor2 apartment for the personal service I provide during the booking process and your stay as well as the comfort of the apartment itself and the very convenient, safe, location – out of the bustle of the centre, yet within easy reach of restaurants, food shopping and transport North or South. The sea is a little over a mile away on foot and the Dart railway a mile. Buses are 3 minutes walk and very frequent.

The block itself is within walled grounds with a garden and private video monitored parking. There is a caretaker on site. I provide chairs and a rug which you can take to sit out in the shared garden on warm days. You will rarely see anyone else in there! The other residents are mainly retired and very quiet so I only let about 12 weeks a year to responsible and mature people who will not create noise! The wifi is provided free of charge and is very fast.

Bedrooms

A large bedroom with a super king bed made up as Austrian twins (2 mattresses) so suitable for good friends as well as for couples! Duvets are down and feather, bed linen, cotton. There is plenty of cupboard space.

Bathrooms

There is an ensuite bathroom with a good sized vintage bath and an over the bath shower. Loo and basin and heated towel rail. Off the entrance hall is a cloakroom with loo and basin and this also houses the washing machine.

Living room

Big picture windows dominate the room and being on the third floor you have a ringside seat for the changing skies, looking out towards the sea (most of the time hidden by trees) which is about a mile away. A sofa and easy chair make this a relaxing room in which to read, watch TV/DVDs (there is a small Irish themed collection) or snooze after a busy day around Dublin. The new Smart HDTV is now larger than in the photo. You can also play the piano (bring your own music!).

Kitchen

Modern kitchen very well equipped with china, cutlery and appliances. Dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave, cooking/baking ware etc. Two electric coffee machines – a Nespresso and a filter machine. There is a small table so you can take coffee in the kitchen looking out over this attractive Dublin neighbourhood – the view to the Georgian houses on the left is in the photos.

Other rooms

A small balcony lies off the sitting room. It faces North East so no good for sunbathing but on warm days you can take your coffee out there (or drinks on balmy evenings) and if you are up early the sun rises to shine, briefly, on the balcony.

Description of amenities

I personally get the apartment ready for you and as I do no back to back lettings, this is very thoroughly done. I do not charge a cleaning fee, expecting that you will leave it clean and tidy and much as you found it. However, I may be able to recommend a cleaner for you during or at the end of your stay if you feel you can not manage this but I need advance notice. This would be an extra charge of 45 Euros. Ample towels and linen is provided for your stay and you may change as required. But this is not a serviced flat so if you are using more than one set each, it is expected that there is only one set/person left for me to wash and you can use the washing machine yourself during your stay. An iron and ironing board is provided.

Suitability

Children over 10 are permitted but they count as a person so with my maximum set as 2 that would be just one adult, one child. No pets are allowed in the block and it is strictly no smoking. There are three shallow steps to the front door of the block (with a hand rail) and a lift to the third floor so accessible for the mildly disabled as long as they can manage the bath/shower.

Local activities

Dublin – need I say more! A vibrant city with a lot to offer. Go to any tourist website or ask me about particular places or events. Less well known is that Dublin also has a number of wonderful coves and beaches within easy reach on the Dart Railway. You also have Sandymount beach for a good blow of sea air, within walking distance. Herbert Park (see photos) is 5 minutes walk away. Tennis and bowling in the park.

Price information

Prices range between £750 and £800 per week. There are no extra fees or charges apart from the cost of transferring money. Like any self catering establishment with no cleaning fee, it is expected that you leave it much as you found it but you can opt to pay a cleaning charge of 50 Euros if you feel you can’t manage this.

Getting there

Ryanair and Aerlingus offer daily, multiple, budget flights from many UK and European airports and of course Dublin is a major hub for flights to North America. Book about 2-3 months in advance for the best fares. Donnybrook village (our local shops) is on the N11 – the route from the South East. Transatlantic flights from Dublin airport daily. The Aircoach (14 Euros return) takes about 40 mins and stops within yards of the block. Taxis cost about 35 Euros. Cars may be hired at the airport or out near Dun Laoghaire (10-15 mins drive).
