Description

Surrounded by a private park of green lawns and secular plane trees, the villa, (of more than 700 square meters) is rented entirely to only one group of persons. It is furnished with antique paintings and furniture and is situated on the banks of the river Adige in the town of Villabartolomea of which the present owners of the villa were feudal lords since the 15th century. The villa is in the heart of a highly suggestive rural setting comprised of the ample plains of the ‘Great Veronese Valleys’. Here the three regions of Veneto, Lombardy and Emilia Romagna come together, offering attractions of great cultural, artistic and environmental interest. Ideal position for visiting cities and places of enormous appeal such as: Verona, Mantova, Ferrara, Vicenza, Padova, Lake of Garda and the Delta of the Po river (all within the distance of 60 Km). And Venice is only 100km far! An off ground swimming pool opens from June 15 to September 15.

As a group of 17, four couples plus nine teenage and adult children, we rented the villa in late December, which this time around turned out to be a very cold period.
The place is huge – even larger than the pictures on the website might suggest – and has a very special historical atmosphere. The rooms are charming, all very different, and most of the beds are quite comfortable. The kitchen offers an ample supply of plates, glasses and silverware, all the equipment needed to host big groups. The villa also has a very nice billard room and bikes, though given the weather conditions we used the former much more than the latter. It boasts a music salon too, with a large piano and a CD player. The kitchen and the living room have wide and well-functioning fireplaces, which we used intensively (there is an unlimited supply of dry firewood freely available to the guests). Last but not least, the wifi connection worked fine.
Mirella, the manager, took excellent care of us throughout our week-long stay, including to take one of us to the doctor. She knows the region very well and provides good advice, both beforehand via email and phone and subsequently on the spot.
The village itself is rather small but there are enough shops to find food and an outstanding pizzeria. There was also a nice street market. We tried dinner at a nearby agroturismo place Mirella recommended, which was a real success.
Padova, Verona, Ferrara, Mantova, Montagnana and more wonderful cities are all well within day-trip distance.

Our old wineclub “The Birds” with 16 members made Villa Mila to our basecamp when we were visiting wineries in Valpolicella, Soave and the Euanean Hills. Some of us visited also Venice, Verona, Ferrara, Mantova. By train or by car.
Villa Mila was a perfect choice. We felt like princes and princesses. Large bedrooms, comfortable beds, seven en-suite bathrooms (one shared). The kitchen was large and well equipped (although a few wine glasses were missing), the diningroom gave place for all 16 and there were several nice places for a drink or a chat.
The environment was inspiring: The impressing garden with beautiful trees, big dog, screaming donkey, visiting horses, winemaking staff etc. The banks of River Adige with perfect biking and walking opportunities. The small city of Villa Bartolomea that offered more than you at first can imagine.
